Michael J. Kline, CPA, MSTAs Shareholder-in-Charge of Taxation, Michael Kline specializes in tax planning for corporations, limited liability companies, and high net-worth individuals. His client base consists of entrepreneurial, privately owned companies covering such diverse industries as technology, wholesale, manufacturing, and professional services.

Backed by extensive professional experience, Michael makes significant contributions to the business and taxation decisions associated with family-owned and start-up companies, including ownership structure, entity decisions, and succession planning. Moreover, he has in-depth knowledge of the complexities of multi-state taxation issues.

Michael regularly serves as a representative and advocate for clients before the IRS and other governmental bodies. He has been effective in appealing and reducing audit assessments and penalties, as well as successfully negotiating offers and compromises. With solid experience in working with state and local governments, he has successfully argued the positions of SMD clients before the Pennsylvania Board of Appeals, Pennsylvania Board of Finance and Revenue, and Philadelphia Tax Review Board.

A lecturer and author, Michael has published articles discussing Pennsylvania taxation and individual tax planning.

For the first ten years of his career, Michael worked for an international accounting firm. Graduating magna cum laude with a degree in Accounting from Drexel University in 1986, Michael was awarded a Master’s degree in Taxation from Villanova University in 1991.
